Ferry to Heraklion

The city of Heraklion is the largest urban center in Crete. The capital of the island is full of life, internationally famous sights and traditional taverns. There, you will find the palaces of Knossos, ideal for a visit in the ancient history.

Suggestions:

  • The first walk in Iraklion is worth being spent on 25th August street. It will leave nobody unmoved as in this street you will find some of the most famous sights of the city such as the Venetian Lontza, the church of St. Titus and the Lions’ Square.
  • But apart from the modern sights, one should not forget a visit to the Archaeological Museum that will offer the visitor knowledge about all the historic periods of the region, especially the Minoan.
  • About 5 km from Iraklion is Knossos, the palace of king Minos, which apart from its beauty and its historical value, keeps the legends of the terrible Minotaur alive.
  • One of the walks that every visitor must take is at the Venetian Walls. Apart from this, one will have the chance to see the tomb of the renowned Cretan writer Nikos Kazantzakis.
